The Prélude Method for Châteaux, Estates and Exceptional Places

We have visited more than one hundred and twenty châteaux. We have listened to those who carry their history, those who orchestrate their everyday rhythm, those who bring their experience to life season after season. And almost everywhere, the same patterns: calendars hard to fill on weekdays and in the off-season, ambitions that move faster than the means at hand, a lack of time, hands, and method. And yet, some places make it work. They fill, they evolve, they move forward without burning out. That difference does not come down to territory, nor to fame. It comes down to one thing, simple and full of meaning: a strategy that comes before the calendar.

POSITIONING BEFORE BOOKING

According to Bain & Altagamma, hospitality has become the leading growth driver in global luxury, carried by a profound shift from the tangible to the experiential. The European destination wedding market reached USD 27.3 billion in 2025 and continues to grow by close to 10% per year. France holds a singular place in it: we are the most expensive country in the segment, and nearly one in two premium overnight stays here is now driven by international clientele. In other words, the opportunity is there. The question is how to capture it.

This is the mistake we see most often. Fill first, understand later. Multiply offers in order to lose no client, and end up attracting none precisely. The logic, in our view, runs the other way. Define what the place is, what it is worth, what it refuses, and who it speaks to. Positioning shapes everything: the price grid, the tone, the calendar, the partnerships, the communication, all the way down to the way one welcomes.

This decision means looking at your asset with fresh eyes, rereading its history with the necessary distance, and resolving a cursor that is often blurred: should it remain rooted and locally premium, or step up toward a premium tier turned toward the international? One is not superior to the other, but neither calls for the same offer, the same prices, nor the same relays. This is precisely where we step in: to set the right diagnosis, to identify the singularity that justifies the price, and to draw the line on which everything else can be built with coherence.

We never arrive with a ready-made recommendation. We arrive with a method, shaped by one hundred and twenty conversations: listening to the place and to those who carry it, weighing what it chooses to be, then holding that course alongside them over time. That is where our role truly begins. Luce Brunerie, Event Director

THE SIGNATURE EVENT, SHOWCASE OF YOUR CRAFT

Once the line is set, it has to be heard. And nothing carries the identity of a place like the signature event: that moment in the year, awaited, recognisable, that becomes at once the showcase, the field of expression, and the reason to speak of you. The signature event reveals the DNA of the place, qualifies its clientele, draws the press, and gives your story new chapters to tell each season.

Depending on the ambition, this moment takes very different forms. For local and regional reach, it can be a cultural cycle, a seasonal dinner, an artisanal encounter that builds the habit, the rendez-vous, the loyalty. For a broader ambition, it takes the form of a press format, a carte blanche offered to an artist, a day for international prescribers, or a curatorial dinner that becomes editorial material. In every case, the stakes are the same: not simply to fill, but to create a moment with which the place will be lastingly associated.

We also design these signatures to serve the quieter seasons. Because an event in September does not carry the same value as one in June, and a format built for the off-season opens commercial windows that weddings will never close on their own.

A signature event is the opposite of one more event. It is the one we design to say what the place refuses to say on its own. We choose its moment, its partners, its guests, its creative gesture. And it is the event itself that then works for you all year round. Nina Dufrène, Creative Director

COMMUNITIES THAT MAKE YOU SHINE

Behind every thriving estate, there is an active ecosystem: prescribers, partners, media, and former clients who come back and recommend. This ecosystem is built. It is perhaps the most technical part of our work, and the most underestimated by our clients.

Depending on your ambition, the circle takes a different shape. At a local level, it brings together the actors of the territory, nearby wedding planners, the regional press, the institutions and the houses that hold authority. At an international level, it draws on premium platforms, American and British wedding planners, agencies specialising in the French art de vivre, prescribing media in travel and design. Between the two, there is the whole craft of partner houses, of co-brandings chosen with care, that build credibility for the place without diluting it.

And then there are the ambassadors. The most underused asset in châteaux, when in fact it is the most precious. Satisfied newlyweds, returning clients, artists welcomed in residence: these are natural relays, to be activated formally, to be cared for over time. According to Launchmetrics, 58% of luxury brands have increased their ambassador marketing investments over the past five years. The industry has understood what many places have not yet structured.

Word of mouth is a gift. But it is also an asset. When we take the time to map it, to feed it, to equip it, it becomes the most precious acquisition channel a place can own. Luce Brunerie.

A NEW ERA OF HOSPITALITY, NARRATIVE AND SENSORY

For a long time, luxury defined itself by possession. Today, it defines itself by experience. The Bain Luxury Study speaks of a "tectonic" shift: the traveller no longer pays for a room, they pay for what they feel inside it. And according to Skift Research, experiences rooted in the local territory raise the satisfaction of premium clients by 30%. That data alone should transform the way we think about hospitality.

At Prélude, we call this narrative and sensory hospitality. Narrative, because a place is never reduced to its walls: it carries a history, a family, a geography, gestures, silences. All of this can be told, set into a story, unfolded from the website to the final evening. Sensory, because that story is better lived than read. The light that shifts hour by hour, the grain of the stones, the scent of a garden, the sound of the undergrowth, the precise gesture of a welcome: these are invisible signatures that quietly decide what your guests will remember.

This is where preference is shaped. Not in the promise, in the sensation. Not in the discourse, in the experience.

Everything your clients will tell about you is played out in details you have not yet identified. Our work is to seek them out. Nina Dufrène.

MAKE YOUR PLACE EXCEPTIONAL

We have built our method through encounters. One hundred and twenty châteaux, hundreds of conversations, dozens of projects. We know when to set the right diagnosis, when to design the event that leaves a mark, when to activate the right relay, when to intervene on the experience to make it unforgettable.

We also know that no two places are alike, and that no answer can be duplicated. That is why everything, with us, begins with a conversation.

Together, let's make your place exceptional.
